How much will my removal cost?
When figuring out the price, the obvious factors taken into account include the distance, the size of the truck, how easy your locations are to reach, and how your goods are packaged. Request a home inspection for an accurate quote. Getting an estimate over the phone is quick, but it's not as reliable as a survey. We never give estimates; we only give firm quotes. If another company estimates a price, their final bill might be higher than anticipated.
What do removal costs include?
At Jorvik, your moving costs are worked out for your move. You can add packing and storage to our standard service, which includes a crewed moving van, travel, and insurance for your goods while they are in transit.
How long will my removal take?
How long it takes to finish a move depends on a lot of different things. The distance and number of items moved are the most obvious factors. Other, less obvious factors include simple but important aspects. Even having to park 10 feet farther away from your house because other cars are parked up can extend the time taken to load or unload.
Even if it doesn't seem important, please let us know if anything changes on the day of your move. The most common problem on moving day is getting the keys to your new home from your estate agent. If you don't expect the keys until 12 or 1pm, it might be a good idea to start later. If nothing goes wrong, it should take four to five hours to move a two-bedroom house. But if you call us, we can give you an idea of how long your move will take.
Can I move at the weekend?
Your move can be completed as soon as possible. Saturdays don't carry any extra charge to cover the higher cost of staff, but other days and times may.
What size van will I get?
The size of the van is decided by our staff after they survey your house. It's up to the movers to use the right-sized vehicle, so only hire reputable companies that know what they're doing. If no survey is done, we will use the information you give us to figure out what size vehicle is needed. If you want us to do the job right, you should be honest about how much needs to be moved.
Can I do my own packing?
Yes, is the clear answer. If you are going to package your own items, choose sturdy boxes of the right sizes. Avoid banana cartons and other open-top boxes which make it impossible to safely stack your goods in the van. All boxes must be well sealed. Think about how packing your own boxes might affect your insurance, because most companies will only pay for damage if the box falls or breaks. If you don't know what kind of boxes you need or are having trouble finding them, we can help.
Do you dismantle and reassemble my furniture?
Unless our estimate says otherwise, all items must be taken apart if needed and be ready to ship before we get there. If you request this service from us instead, our staff will take the item apart and reassemble it at the destination. When you request a quote, you must be clear about what you need so that the right amount of time and resources can be given.
How do I pay for my removal?
When you accept our quote, we ask for a 25% down payment, with the rest due 10 days before the date of the move. In addition to BACS, debit and credit cards can be used to pay.
How do I move house with a dog/cat?
Keep your pet shut in a particular room marked clearly "Do Not Open." Once most of the moving is done, move your pet to one of the emptied rooms, and the moving company will finish moving the last few things before transporting them to your new home.
Are my goods insured?
Yes, your possessions will be covered while they are being moved by insurance of up to £50,000 per vehicle while they are being moved. Always read the terms and conditions of the insurance policy carefully.
What time will the van arrive?
Our staff typically start work between 6 and 8 in the morning. We expect to reach you between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. If you are travelling a long way, we will work with you to estimate when we will get there. Even though there are many things that could cause us to be late, we always get there on time.
