How much will my removal cost?
When setting the price, the obvious things are taken into account, like the distance, the size of the vehicle, how easy access is, and how your belongings are packed. Have your house inspected to be sure of the price for your move. Even though a phone estimate is quick, it is not as accurate as a survey. We only ever give quotes for prices; we never give estimates. It's not a good idea to accept estimates from other businesses because their final price might be higher than you expected.
What do removal costs include?
At Jorvik, the cost is calculated on a move-by -move basis. In addition to our standard services, which include a crewed moving van, travel, and insurance for your valuables while in transit, we also offer packing and storage.
How long will my removal take?
There are many things that affect how long a move will take. The most obvious ones are the distance and the number of things that need moving. Other, less obvious factors may be important. For instance, loading and unloading could take longer because of small problems, like having to park 10 feet away from your house because there are already cars there.
Please let us know if anything changes on the day of your move, no matter how small. On the day of the move, the biggest delay is often getting the keys to a new home from the estate agent. If you won't get the keys until 12 or 1pm, it may be worth starting later. If everything goes as planned, a two-bedroom house move will take four to five hours. Please call us for a firmer idea of how long your move will take.
Can I move at the weekend?
We can move you whenever you like. We don’t charge extra for Saturday moves, but some days and times might attract a surcharge to make up for the higher cost of labour.
What size van will I get?
The size of the vehicle is based on how big your move is. It is up to the movers to bring the right-sized van, so only work with reputable businesses that know what they are doing. If there isn't a survey, the information you give will be used to figure out what size vehicle is best. If you want us to do a good job, you need to be honest about how many things need to be moved.
Can I do my own packing?
The obvious answer is yes. If you want to package your own goods, choose containers that are strong and of the right size. All of your boxes must be tightly sealed, because open-top boxes (like banana boxes) are impossible to stack safely in the van. Most insurance companies will only pay for damage if the box breaks or falls, so think carefully about how the way you pack the box might affect your insurance coverage. We can help if you don't know what kind of boxes you need or if you're having trouble finding them.
Do you dismantle and reassemble my furniture?
Unless your quote says otherwise, any items that need to be taken apart must be disassembled and ready to move before we get there. If you want us to do this, please request this service when booking your quote. This is so the right amount of time and resources can be allocated to each job.
How do I pay for my removal?
When you agree the price and book with us, we ask for a 25% down payment. Ten days before the moving date, the full balance is due. In addition to BACS, debit and credit cards can be used to pay.
How do I move house with a dog/cat?
Keep your pet in a small, quiet room with "Do Not Open" marked on the door. When the rest of the house is empty, you can move your pet to another room while your movers take the last few things from the first room.
Are my goods insured?
Yes, your things will be covered while you're moving. Your property is protected up to £50,000 per vehicle while it is in transit. What time will the van arrive?
Our team begins work between 6 and 8am each morning. We'll be at your house between 8:30 and 9:00am. If you are travelling a long way, we will discuss the timescales with you. There are many things that could hold us up, but we aim to always get there on time.
